What has not traveling this season allowed your family to do around your town?
Being mostly in Abu Dhabi in 2020 allowed us to do more adventures here & we have really been enjoying it! A few weeks back we did Desert camping which we will share about, but today we are sharing about an awesome local spot we have all fallen in love with Jubail Mangrove Park Boardwalk.
Last weekend TEAMRYANADVENTURES set out to explore Jubail Mangrove Park. This mangrove sanctuary “is the first self-contained educational, nature and leisure destination of its kind in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.”
Planning our adventure
Booking, traveling to & going on the adventure to Jubail Mangrove Park is very easy, affordable and enjoyable for the whole family.
You can easily go on the website http://park.jubailisland.ae We opted to book general admission online and did not need to wait in a line. When we arrived the line was for those who did not make reservations online prior to coming to the park.
General Admission is 10 to 15 AED PER PERSON (*please, note priority admission is higher & should there be a long line you do get to skip it.) Children under 6 visit for free. You pay upon arrival.
The boardwalk is 2km and offers 3 different paths. Since our girls are boundless balls of energy and we enjoy being outdoors we did the full 2km. However, we decided to see how the girls did this trip before booking a more detailed guide with a Ranger or any of the Experiences. The park offers a variety of experiences such as kayak experiences, E-canoe experiences, sound healing, yoga and art experiences.
Since we wanted to go as a family, we went on a weekend. We also thought weather would be nice and it would be most picturesque at sunset. I will admit holidays, weekends and sunset are most likely the busiest time to go. This being said we still had a blast! We felt totally safe too as we were outside, people were making an effort to social distance and people were wearing masks.
A frequent question we heard before going is “Can a child complete the loop?” Honestly, I think ABSOLUTELY they can! Here are a few things we recommend to allow your children & family to have a wonderful time.
Tips for a successful adventure
- Book in advance to avoid long wait times
- Make sure children are well rested
- Hydrate prior to and on the walk
- Encourage children to eat a healthy meal or snack beforehand
- Take a carrier or stroller for younger children should they need a break
- Go at the children’s pace & let them explore
- HAVE FUN!
Marine Species Discovery
The girls favorite part by far was looking for all the marine animals 🦀 🐠 while we leisurely walked the boardwalk. We brought all 3 girls (1, 4, 7). My older two really love Science and exploring this was a little piece of heaven in Abu Dhabi! While exploring our oldest made a list of cool species she discovered. She plans to research these more over her winter break!
Our family also discussed how the Jubail Mangrove Park was created to recognize the mangrove habitat and how it protects the Abu Dhabi Coastline. ThE walk opens up many conversations for learning and I hope to see schools in the area begin utilizing it to teach children. I know my girls would personally love a field trip back here. We actually decided after how much they loved it and how perfect the weather is that we definitely want to come back again and kayak as it seems like an adventure the girls would love!
If you are in Abu Dhabi and looking for something cool to do I highly recommend the Jubail Mangrove Park!
What are you doing to enjoy this Christmas season in Abu Dhabi or where you live?
