Today I am currently on my 3rd Breastfeeding 🍼🍼🍼journey. This means 3 times to learn and grow and understand my body & my babies better. This does not equal mastery or expertise, but it does equal figuring out best practices that work for us. I hope it helps you on your journey as well!
As a family we go to the pool & beach a lot & we have always lived in warm climates! I find these little things really helped me. 1. HYDRATE 💦when bf especially in summer I increase my water & often add electrolyte tabs to my water! I give my babies over 6 months sips of water to keep hydrated in heat or I nurse very, very frequently. Hydration is so important for mamas & babies!
2. SHADE Wear a hat that helps shade you & bubs! When mine are small they keep a hat on-as they grow they fight it! Keep in the shade when possible! I always carry a muslin blanket with me to use as my cover & to provide shade when baby naps!
3. WATER CARRIER I have used different kinds, but found both to be awesome especially to keep hands free for other babies and to even nurse while sitting on the steps of the pool while the other girls play. The Beachfront Baby Water Ring Sling is definitely one I would recommend. My older girls are far more patient at the pool if they are told “after mommy feeds baby I am all yours because she can sleep in the water sling! This wonderful sling keeps baby securely held, is very light weight and dried very quickly.
4. CONFIDENCE Some pool/beach/lake days are going to be amazing & smooth while nursing & some just aren’t! Breastfeeding anywhere takes confidence. Yet, Mamas are often already so insecure to be in a swim suit let alone nursing! Take a deep breath, look at your amazing baby you made, say a special prayer, and remember YOU GOT THIS & feed that precious bambino that loves you so very much.
