5 Reasons Family Travel Itinerary Must Include Parks

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

  • Sliding into a great day
  • hanging out with Daddy at the park
  • climbing the spider web at the park in Strasbourg
  • sliding into a great day at the park opposite our hotel

Team Ryan Adventures love to travel. One thing we have found that makes our trips better is taking advantage of parks. Here are the top 5 reasons having parks on your itinerary will make your family travels better.

1. It gets the energy out! Let’s be serious traveling with children is FANTASTIC! We love it for a lot of reasons. One of those reasons is travel offers our family time to really zone in on one another and focus on each other more than we might normally. Sometimes though…..this Mama needs a minute and a coffee and my girls need some space to run wild and be loud. Parents, take it from someone who lived in a small space for many months with my children in very close proximity to a lot of people on business travel (AKA Hotel), you want to find a park. Doing so will allow your children to get energy out. From our years of travel we have found playing at a park is key for our children to travel better, sleep better and be less cranky in general. Selfishly I also like to do this so they nap or can sit with a book or iPad later while my husband & I have a happy hour drink at a cool family friendly spot.

2. You get a local feel for the city you are visiting. Kids universal language is play! When kids play at a park they learn languages that kids speak in that country. When we are at parks we often meet families from the city we are visiting. This allows us to learn the go to places for locals in that particular city. Being around local families at the park also allows us to talk about the country/city and culture of a place in more detail with our children later on down the road.

  • Enjoying the park in Santa Monica, CA
  • Enjoying the park at Emirates Palace

3. Being outside and playing allows our children stay healthy on trips (and while at home)! Bottom line Vitamin D is good for you and we often don’t get enough! Fresh air is amazing for our general health! Both Vitamin D and Fresh Air help kick jet lag to the curb too which is HUGE! Playing at parks allows children to run, jump, climb and use tons of Gross motor skills. I personally like to believe playing at parks is also helping build my children’s immune systems by exposing them to things they would not be exposed to otherwise.

4. Parks allow children to feel like travel is not all “work”. Often travel includes, catching flights, driving long hours, sitting at dinners, going to museums, taking tours, etc. This can be fun, but let’s be honest it can be a lot of work for the little ones. Sitting still and being quiet is hard for children. Allowing them to climb on play structures, dig in sandboxes and jump in splash pads allows them time to just play and relax. We often try to find hotels very close to parks so we can just hop over first thing in the AM or when we are heading back home for a the day.

5. Parks are FREE! TeamRyanAdventures are big fans of all things affordable. Yes, some parks have added features that can cost money, but for the most part parks are FREE of charge. If they are not FREE they can be a somewhat affordable option for a few hours in comparison to other tourist attractions. In Paris my girls and I love to spend the day at the Jardin de Luxembourg and Jardin des Tuileries. In NYC we can spend an entire day in Central Park. These parks all offer both options which I find fabulous. One day you can ride the carousel or hit the zoo and the next have a low key picnic and play a game of tag.

We hope this post helps you on your next adventure! Have you been to any great parks while traveling? Do you have a great park in your city? Share it with us! We would love to hear from you and don’t forget to subscribe so you can hear more from TeamRyanAdventures.

What have you done to keep the adventure in 2020? What have you done to keep the adventure in 2020?

This year has been hard in many ways, but 2020 has also been extraordinary! Extraordinary in that while we have not traveling as much it has allowed us more adventures locally in Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪 & allowed us to find joy in just being together.

We recently set out to explore Jubail Mangrove Park & we LOVED ♥️it!!

The weather here at the moment is crisp & perfect! It’s such a gift & we are enjoying all the outdoor time we can. This outdoor adventure is one we are so thankful we got to experience & you don’t want to miss! All 3 girls (18 months, 4 & 7) did the full 2km and they had a ball! Baby girl did take a few breaks to ride in her ergo, but even she wanted to be down exploring. The older girls enjoyed spotting the marine species 🦀🐠🦀, jumping on the rope trampoline & exploring an exotic new area.

Have you explored any cool places in your area this year? Double tap ♥️♥️if that’s been a positive in 2020 for you too!

For all the tips and tricks to make visiting Jubail Mangrove Park a huge success check out our latest blog post (link in bio). @visitabudhabi @jubail_mangrove_park @adwuae #teamryanadventures #jubailmangrovepark #visitabudhabi #abudhabilife
WARNING: SAPPY MAMA POST AHEAD! Today is one of WARNING: SAPPY MAMA POST AHEAD!

Today is one of my favorite days of the year. Our annual no kids shop until we drop day.

This morning though as we ventured into new stores for my oldest I could not help but catch my breath and hold back the tears. It was like as soon as we entered this photo of her 1st Christmas popped into my mind. I still remember telling my husband, “It looks like she is reaching for joy!”

She is 7 now. She is still little. She is still asking Santa for toys. She still loves to play. She even has 2 younger sisters. I know all of this. So, trust me when I tell you this “Mama moment” was a sucker punch out of the blue.

Maybe it’s that this year I am not buying teething toys or nursing items. Maybe it is because she now wants “cool toys” or “cool clothes”. Maybe it’s my hormones. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe it’s 2020. Maybe a mix of it all.

Whatever it was though I am so THANKFUL because it stopped me in my tracks & made this Mama REACH! REACH back and remember how blessed I am to have her. REACH back into memories of Christmas mornings shared with her. It then served as my reminder to REACH beyond the busy to be more present with her in this season. REACH past my impatience & soak her abundant energy in with joy & patience. REACH in & focus on her because she still actually wants to hang out with me. REACH beyond myself & towards being a better Mama. Yes, I will REACH so one day when the time comes she can spread her wings and REACH for the stars.

What are you reaching for this Christmas season?!? (Besides.....Coffee, wine & more sleep) #reachforthestars #raisingdaughters #momlife

5 Things camping in the desert taught me! 1. Like 5 Things camping in the desert taught me!
1. Like all things in life-it takes a village. A village to share what to pack. A village to hold your child while you take another one potty. A village to make meals easier on everyone, to provide extra headlamps & all glow sticks possible! A village to share a tent to make sure the girls enjoy camping before making a financial commitment. (A village to teach your child how to sandboard bc well learning from mom is the worst! Ha!) A village to share the memories that will last a lifetime.
2. Kids don’t need tons of planned entertainment. They need a bunch of hills & sand & friends to explore the dunes. We did bring a few beach toys that the little ones enjoyed. My husband did also bring a device for a movie in the tent at bedtime-which was fun for them. One honestly might be timid & just need a cute ladybug camping chair and a seat by the fire with mommy.
3. Food. We split food up as a group. People brought different items to contribute this worked very well & was a great idea by a friend! For kids well they mainly enjoyed water snacks hotdogs & S’mores (peep s’mores if possible)!
4. Sleeping! We brought an air mattress to use in our tent which was nice. The girls used sleeping bags which they loved except the baby who decided sleeping on mommy was best! It’s cool later in the night mainly like 2AM-5AM so bring socks & a warm hat to put near your sleeping bag or just put them on before you sleep. If baby wakes you up prior to sunrise-try to see it as a blessing because you might just get to witness one of the most picturesque things you will ever see.
5. You will have sand in places you never imagined. Sand will get everywhere just know that going in. Your baby will eat it & it will fill her diaper. Best to kick off the shoes & just have fun! We learned to sand board. Wrote messages in the sand & made sand 👼 angels. You will get home sand will still cover your family, house & car. Shake it off. Suck it up & sweep it away & remember it was worth it.
PS Huge thanks to my husband for lowering the air in the tires & knowing all the essential tips & tricks to make his girls first desert camping experience a great one!
HOLY MOLY! This camel 🐪 caravan might be one of HOLY MOLY! This camel 🐪 caravan might be one of the coolest things I’ve seen living in the UAE 🇦🇪 and we were blessed to see it twice while on our 1st desert camping ⛺️ adventure! Last year at this time my husband pulled off a HUG Last year at this time my husband pulled off a HUGE extended 40th birthday & Christmas SURPRISE! He arranged for my parents to meet us at the Christmas Market in Vienna. I will forever be thankful for the memories we made. It was like a scene from a Hallmark movie and I loved every minute of it! The girls still talk about how loud I screamed with excitement when I saw my parents! This year we won’t get to go to our Christmas Market trip & we won’t get to see family at Christmas. So this mama is on a mission! I plan to make lots of memories during this season! (Possibly ahead: lots of pj wearing, hot chocolate/ Glühwein drinking & cookie baking! 😉) Why do I plan to do this?! Well, very soon they will grow up & move far away from me & when I surprise them I want them to shriek so loud in excitement everyone in the city can hear them! 2020 you may have taken away my favorite trip, but you will not take the joy & memory making away from me! #viennachristmasmarket #christmasmarket2019 #2020goals #raisingdaughters #makingmemories #familytravels #traveltheworld #passtheglühwein #christmasmemories #expatfamily #christmastravel
